SYMPTOMS:
  • When attempting to load Microsoft One Drive for Business and do a sync an error message appears as shown in the following screenshot below:

Cannot Select Location For Sync Using Microsoft One Drive For Business

The software tells me that there is a problem syncing to the requested folder. This folder resides on an external hard disk drive connected to the PC via Universal Serial Bus (USB).

The exact error message is:

Sorry, we can't save your documents to the chosen location. Please try picking a different place on your computer.

If I were to accept the default location where One Drive wants to sync files to I get this error message:

Cannot Select Location For Sync Using Microsoft One Drive For Business

The software then instructions me or links me to download the OneDrive application. When I click the link "Get The App" I am direct to the OneDrive wesite where I can download the software.

KEY TERMS :
Term Definition
Microsoft One Drive OneDrive (previously SkyDrive, Windows Live SkyDrive, and Windows Live Folders) is a file hosting service that allows users to sync files and later access them from a web browser or mobile device. Users can share files publicly or with their contacts; publicly shared files do not require a Microsoft account to access them. OneDrive is included in the suite of online services formerly known as Windows Live.
sync Sync and synch are abbreviations of synchronization, the coordination of events to keep them in time.
external hard disk drive External hard disk drives[q] typically connect via USB; variants using USB 2.0 interface generally have slower data transfer rates when compared to internally mounted hard drives connected through SATA. Plug and play drive functionality offers system compatibility and features large storage options and portable design. As of March 2015, available capacities for external hard disk drives ranged from 500 GB to 8 TB.
Universal Serial Bus (USB) USB, short for Universal Serial Bus, is an industry standard developed in the mid-1990s that defines the cables, connectors and communications protocols used in a bus for connection, communication, and power supply between computers and electronic devices.[4] It is currently developed by the USB Implementers Forum (USB IF).
