CHECKLIST: IDENTIFYING THE PROBLEM

Slow speed issues related to Internet browsing and downloading can be a direct result of any number of problems. However, a variety of troubleshooting steps can be completed in order to indentify and resolve problems. These steps are listed below:

Run MSCONFIG To Disable Start Up Items.
Optimize The Web Browser
Clear Out Temporary Internet Files and Cookies.
Set Cache To A Low Amount.
Reset DSL or Cable modem and reboot the computer.
Check The Physical Setup Of The Connection.
For DSL modem connections, ensure Phone Cable Is Six Feet Or Less In Length
For browsing related problems reset the Winsock stack using the following command:
netsh winsock reset catalog.
